Surplus Wire Buyers for South Dakota Utilities and Power Generation
Substation work, generation maintenance and renewable projects leave medium-voltage cable and control cable on reels.
Utility and generation work is specified to a standard, ordered to a schedule and frequently left with material on the reel when a project closes. Substation rebuilds, line upgrades, plant maintenance outages, wind and solar balance-of-system work, and municipal or cooperative distribution projects all produce surplus cable that is worth a real conversation.
We buy 5kV through 69kV-and-above power cable, concentric neutral and tape-shielded constructions, control and instrumentation cable from relay and SCADA work, bare copper grounding conductor, and the building wire that comes with a new control building. Reel tags matter here more than anywhere else.
Where surplus wire tends to come from
- Substation and switchyard rebuilds with leftover medium-voltage cable
- Generation maintenance outages and balance-of-plant replacements
- Wind, solar and renewable interconnection projects
- Relay, SCADA and communications upgrades with orphaned control cable
- Grounding grid and bonding conductor left after a site build
- Distribution and underground residential work with URD and USE-2 remaining
What we buy from this sector
- 5kV, 15kV, 25kV, 35kV and 69kV+ shielded power cable, EPR and XLPE
- Concentric neutral and tape-shielded underground cable
- Control, instrumentation and shielded signal cable
- Bare copper grounding and bonding conductor
- XHHW-2 and THHN/THWN building wire, copper and aluminum
- URD, USE-2 and service-entrance assemblies
Pickup and shipping
Utility sites often require notice, escort and a delivery window, and large reels need equipment on site. Tell us the reel diameters and approximate weights, whether a crane or a heavy forklift is available, and what site access rules apply so the pickup is planned correctly before anything moves.
How to submit a lot
Send the wire types, sizes, conductor metal, approximate footage and condition, plus photos of the reel tags and jacket legends. Tell us the city and ZIP where the material sits and the access rules at the site. If the lot is mixed, list the constructions you can identify and note roughly how much of each.
Questions from this sector
Do you buy single reels of 15kV cable?
Yes. One reel with a readable tag is a normal lot. Send the tag, the jacket print, the conductor size and material, the shield type and the footage remaining.
What about cable that has been in storage for years?
Age alone is not disqualifying, but storage conditions are. Tell us whether the reels were indoors, outdoors, sealed, or stored on end, and send photos of the reel flanges and the jacket.
Surplus wire at a utilities & power generation site?
Send the details and photos. We will review the material and come back with a plan for pricing and logistics.
