Wire we buy

We Buy Surplus Bare Copper and Grounding Wire in South Dakota

Bare copper conductor, grounding and bonding wire in coils and on reels.

Bare copper is the simplest thing we buy and the easiest to identify: no jacket, no voltage class, just conductor. It shows up as grounding and bonding conductor, as bare overhead and grounding grid wire, and as leftover soft-drawn coil from grounding upgrades at substations, plants and commercial services.

We buy bare copper solid and stranded from #14 through 500 MCM, in coils, on spools and on full reels, clean and untinned or tinned where it is part of the lot. If it is bare copper and it is surplus, send a photo with something for scale.

What we buy

  • Bare soft-drawn copper conductor, solid and stranded
  • Grounding electrode conductor and bonding jumpers
  • Bare copper in coils, spools, reels and straight lengths
  • Tinned bare copper where it is part of a mixed lot
  • Bare copper braid and flexible grounding strap
  • Sizes #14 through 500 MCM, including 250, 300, 350, 400 and 500

Sizes, ratings and packaging

  • Typical sizes#14, #12, #10, #8, #6, #4, #2, #1, 1/0–4/0, 250–500 MCM
  • ConstructionSolid and concentric-stranded bare copper
  • Standards we seeASTM B3 (soft or annealed) and B8 (concentric stranded) conductor
  • Packaging we see100 ft coils, spools, wooden reels and 1,000 ft reels
  • Condition we buyNew surplus, unused, overstock, weathered coils with clean metal

Bare copper is priced on weight and cleanliness, so a scale ticket or an approximate weight helps more than a footage guess. Say whether the coil is clean, painted, tinned or corroded.

We buy bare copper as electrical conductor for reuse. This is not a general scrap pickup, and we do not take mixed demolition debris.

How to send it for review

Use the quote form on this page or call (614) 715-3047. Include the wire type, size, conductor metal, approximate footage, condition and packaging, plus photos of the reel tag, the jacket print and the cut end. If the material came out of a specific project, say what it was — it explains the lot faster than a description alone.

We review building wire and common cable from across South Dakota and reply with questions or a next step. Nothing is committed until pricing and logistics are agreed.

Questions about Bare Copper & Grounding

Do I need to weigh bare copper before sending photos?

No, but a weight or an approximate one speeds things up. Put a coil on a pallet scale if you have one, or tell us the size and the number of coils and we will estimate from the photos.

Do you buy painted or corroded bare copper?

Send photos. Light oxidation is normal. Heavy corrosion, paint, solder and mixed attachments change how the metal has to be handled, so tell us what it is and we will be straight about whether it is a fit.

Send the details and photos

Tell us what you have and where it sits. Reel tags, jacket legends and a photo of the whole stack are usually enough to start a real conversation.
