Wire we buy
We Buy Surplus XHHW and XHHW-2 Wire in South Dakota
Cross-linked polyethylene insulated building wire for wet, cold and feeder applications.
XHHW and XHHW-2 are the cross-linked polyethylene building wires we see on feeders, service conductors and wet or cold locations. Because XHHW-2 handles 90°C in wet locations, it shows up on outdoor slabs, pump stations, grain facilities and anywhere a contractor decided not to risk a THWN call-out.
We buy XHHW and XHHW-2 in both copper and aluminum, from #14 through 1000 MCM, in full reels, partial reels and coils. If a project was value-engineered from aluminum to copper — or the reverse — the leftover reels are exactly the kind of lot we want to look at.

Aluminum XHHW is priced on alloy, temper and size as well as length. Copper XHHW is priced on the conductor. Either way, the reel tag and the jacket print are what we need first.
If the wire was pulled and re-reeled, tell us that on the form. Re-reeled conductor is still reviewable, but the condition of the insulation and the accuracy of the length both matter.
How to send it for review
Use the quote form on this page or call (614) 715-3047. Include the wire type, size, conductor metal, approximate footage, condition and packaging, plus photos of the reel tag, the jacket print and the cut end. If the material came out of a specific project, say what it was — it explains the lot faster than a description alone.
We review building wire and common cable from across South Dakota and reply with questions or a next step. Nothing is committed until pricing and logistics are agreed.
Questions about XHHW / XHHW-2 Wire
Is XHHW-2 worth more than XHHW?
Sometimes, because the 90°C wet rating makes it more usable. The difference is smaller than most sellers expect. Size, metal and remaining length drive the number far more than the suffix.
Do you buy aluminum XHHW?
Yes. Aluminum XHHW and XHHW-2 in feeder and service sizes is a common South Dakota surplus item, especially from agricultural and industrial projects that were re-scoped.

Tell us what you have and where it sits. Reel tags, jacket legends and a photo of the whole stack are usually enough to start a real conversation.
